The book I have says that from 1939 to 1952, Crosley used a L4 12Hp (1939)
and a L4, 44.0 25.5hp in 1952. L means that it was a straight, inline
engine as oopsed to a V-block. I have further stats, if you want them.

I believe you are essentially correct. However, the engine block
was a metal stamping ! ! ! Can you believe that. I know this was true
at least in the war years and post war years. I have heard that the
engine had a durability problem which was mostly attributed to galvanic
corrosion from the different metal types used, although I don't know if
that is accurate.
When I was a tyke, my dad had a (new) Crosley, and I know that on more
than one occasion, a wheel came off while he was driving it.
