This is the item where everyone gets to be a film critic. If you've
recently been to the show or rented a movie on tape - feel free to
share your impressions here. Rate 'em with letter grades, or
stars, or up or down-turned thumbs if you'd like. Just don't
give away a good ending.

last night I saw _Philadelphia_ (not _Six Degrees of Separation_ as I
thought I was going to) and it was terrific! A couple of minor
inconsistencies, I thought, but generally at least an A-.
Be prepared to shed some tears toward the end.

I just saw BLINK at the second run movie house and I have to say,

How many horror/gore films have you ever seen and left the theater
saying "What an incredible soundtrack."

The plot left a bit to be desired; there were lots of classic horror
movie stupid human tricks (like the girl knows a killer is out there
after her and she keeps ditching her police bodyguard) but it wasn't
too horrible.

Movie: C
Soundtrack: A++

Re 4: One time I threw an "awful films with great soundtracks" party.
We watched _Give My Regards To Broad Street_, which turned out to be a
lot of fun, and _Against All Odds_, which was so bad that we kept waiting
for them to play the famous song so we could turn it off. They didn't
play the song until the closing credits, so we got sucked into watching
the whole thing.

I saw the show _The Phantom Of The Opera_ recently, and walked out of
the theater saying, "what amazing sets!" The show didn't grab me right
there (I kept expecting the Beauty And The Beast story, which it wasn't),
but the sets were fantastic.

Count the recent "Judgement Night" film as lousy with an EXCELLENT soundtrack.

I Naked Gun 33 1/3 too. Good. A-

I also so On Deadly Ground, which was good if you
like those action type movies (i.e., if you get
excited when you see a knife shoved through somebody's
head, you'll like this). One thing that surprised me
was that the hero and the heroine didn't have sex some
time during the movie. Oh well.

The Ref -- A- (If you loved "Heathers," you'll like "The Ref.")

A pretty decent black comedy, depicting a grossly dysfunctional
family being held hostage by a frustrated burglar. The chuckles
come at a reasonable, constant pace.

     The End 3.5 stars

The End is a story about a man who learns he has a rare blood disease
and will die in 1 year. He doesn't handle the news very well. So he seeks
out his ex-wife, his daughter, his lover and his priest, his parents,
who he cannot tell because he is afraid of what could happen. He borrows
sleeping pills from his parents, and tries to od on them, but botches it
because the milk he takes them with is sour. He tries again, this time
with vodka, and again is unseccessful, but he winds up in a mental hospital.
He meets Marlon (played by Dom DeLuise) who is really nuts and is
in the mental hospital because he killed his father. Burt enlists Dom's
help in committing suicide, until Burt decides that killing himself would
make him a loser in the eyes of his daughter. So while in the middle of
a swim, He decides that life is the best way to go. The ending is too
funny for me to decribe here, so you will have to see it.

The cast members are: Burt Reynolds, Sally Field, Myrna Loy, Pat O'Brien
Dom DeLuise, Strother Martin, David Steinberg, Norman Fell, and Carl
Reiner among others. The cast is A-one, and so is the script and
direction. Go rent it.

I have seen sevral movies in the past week with sevral women so don't get mad
if my ratings are, well, inaccurate ...

-----NAKED GUN 33 1/3-----
I liked it, however it was
not as good as the first
two, I give it an A anyway
though. =)

-----THE REF-----
REALLY funny. It
was stupid at parts,
but worth seeing!
I give it a B+

The last movie I saw was Repo Man. Everybody should rent this! It's a great
moie. It's a story about a kid who becomes a repo man (who really just steal
cars and make the owners pay) and he gets entangled with a car that has an
alien in the trunk. It's one of Emilio Esteves's first movies, and probably his
best. It also has a great punk soundtrack, if you happen to like the Circle
Jerks, Suicidal Tendancies, Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Fear and Burning Sensation,
you should pick this tape up.

Naked Gun 33 1/3 - B

A bit of a change from the first two, in that it relies more on its
script and less on visual humor. The least funny of the three, by
a good measure, but still worth seeing if you are a "Police Squad" fan.
Don't forget to stay for the credits.

Menace II Society - B+

This film briefly follows the life of some rather unsavory characters
living in a Los Angeles ghetto. As the directors say, it is a film
about the "gangster" lifestyle, not a film about gangs. The film
attempts to show how the characters grew into that lifestyle, and depicts
its destructiveness, both inward and outward. It is similar to Boyz 'n
the Hood. However, that film was more of a character study while "Menace"
is more of an action film. Very violent.

Guarding Tess:
B+. Entertaining. The story about a secret service agent guarding the
bitch from hell. Funny at times and serious at other times. It would
have been better if it didn't try to be serious at the end.

I just saw "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover." It was a rather
ODD film. The violence was a bit much for me. I also thought the story was
a bit hard to follow, but not the plot (IMO, the first twenty minutes could
have been lopped off). While there were quite a few things left to the
audience imagination, there were also a few scenes that seemed way too
graphic and simply there for shock value. While not a bad movie overall, I
don't think I'll see it again and I have a hard time recommending it. I'll
give it a C+.

My next movie? "The Piano."
