Have you been to the movies lately? This is the movie review item
where we all get to play Siskel and Ebert. It doesn't matter whether
the film is a new release being shown in a theatre or something that
has been around for ages on videotape. Just jump right in and share
your opinions on what worked and what didn't.

I rented "This Boy's Life" knowing nothing about the film other
than two of my favorite actors played the leading roles - Ellen
Barkin and Robert DeNiro. It also starred a new kid who is getting
rave reviews for another recent performance but I can't recall his
name. The film was a little jewel, well worth renting. Rated: B.

I saw the Pelican Brief. It was pretty good, but it would have been better
if it were about 20 minutes shorter. Non-brief pelican? Anyway, it was
the first time I've seen a movie starring Denzel Washington. I'm impressed.
I'd like to see him some more. What other films was he good in?

_Malcolm X_, for one. He also stars in Jonathan Demme's new film
_Philadelphia_, soon to open at theaters everywhere.

I loved the Pelican Brief, I read the book first and thought the movie
wasn't quite as good. However I was very impressed by the job that Denzel
Washington did.

Washington was also in "Glory," the story of the black regiment from
Massachusetts that fought in the Civil War.

I plan on seeing _Tombstone_, _Addams Family Values_, and possibly _Wayne's
World 2_. However, my sister told me that _Wayne's World 2_ is way cool...

...and then there's "Farewell My Concubine", which I saw with seveal fellow
Grexers. I don't think I quite absorbed it all. It was too thick, operating
on too many levels. I guess I _am_ a part of the MTV generation after all.
