That is like saying 'I love food, I love travel, I love music...' Can you
be more specific. Visual arts, music, theater? I was looking for an item
about the visual arts (fine arts), such as painting and sculpture. I have
been reading a book on the social history of Chinese art. Like Europe, most
artists worked on commission for political or religious patrons and their
function was pretty much propaganda. A ruler whose claim to the throne was
somewhat irregular would commission a work of art showing his devotion to his
ancestors (or adopted ancestors). The many Catholic churches in Italy would
try to attract rich members with the most or best new frescoes. Current
members would pay for the frescoes and get a picture of themselves included.
My question is, is their still political or propaganda art in the US? It used
to be very widespread in Russia. Art supposedly acts on the emotions. Or
is propaganda type art mainly found now only in advertising? TV commercials
seem to have a lot of impact and a lot of money invested in them, and are on
the cutting edge of new technology. (People seem to enjoy them and are
willing to watch them over and over, like listening to favorite songs.)

those things certainly exist now, just so long as your definition of art
includes them. those messages were then and are now contained in and
expressed via popular media. the variety of media is just now much greater.

a well crafted television commercial now might be the analog for a fresco or
a painting a few hundred years ago, as might a website, a radio ad, a
billboard, a sign on a bus, etc. we generally don't consider these kinds of
things art, but that is an arbitrary distinction. there are mass produced
things which are still called art.
just as a ruler with an unsure throne will propagandize his people with
commisioned works of art, pursuers of office will propagandize people with
claims of any and all kinds via broadcast and print media. what's the
difference?

I was thinking of pictures, rather than words, as art. Perhaps there was more
political and visual art backin the days before widespread literacy, and
before radio. TV and billboards are still mostly pictorial. Tell me about
website art, I only use lynx (no graphics or color).
I don't know much about religious art or propaganda, but came up with
a form of political art: money (all those president's heads, some countries
prefer colored pictures of plants and animals) and postage stamps. The stamps
seem to have shifted away from commemorating persons and events of political
importance to generating revenue through the sale of entire sheets (all that
artwork (?) continues beyond the stamps on many sheets). I recall Elvis
Presley, Marilyn Monroe, sports figures, other entertainers such as Disney
Characters, etc. My neighbor framed a few sheets of stamps, forget which.
Nobody is likely to purchase a sheet of monocolor heads to frame. Then there
are the self-adhesive stamps, it would be interesting to compare subject
matter. (I never buy them, wastes more paper).
Where do mass-art type artists find employment nowadays other than
advertising of all sorts, including websites, and the design of products
(clothing, furniture, machinery)?

I am into charcoal sketching, and watercolors. Are there any good web-site with
nice instructions on them. I havent had a chance to find anything worthwhile
in a long time, except, there was one site called the "Charcoal Page" or
