Phantom of the Opera?
|
Mar 19 03:05 UTC 1995 |
Anyone know if "The Phantom of the Opera" is still going on
as a live production? I saw it last year, my first opera ever,
I guess, and it was pretty cool. I think $45.00 should have
gotten me more than a backrow seat, though.

I'm pretty sure it's still touring and I know the theater in
Toronto that they re-built just for Phantom is still in
operation.
Sadly 45$ is around the going rate for second rate seats in large scale
productions theser days.

Boy, that's something I've been thinking of doing for a while now.
Does anyone know of a good theater/hotel package being offered?

The Toronto show has a htel/theater package, it's advertised on a
lot of Detroit radio stations "dial Phantom by phone", unfortunatly
I don't know what the number is. The name of the theater is the
Phantasius THeater (I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling)
but if you can find a Canadian Tourism phone number they would
probably be able to get you information on the subject.

I think that the number is (416) 872-2222.
I'm 99% sure of this.

Hmmm, well I guess I won't be able to see them again, unless they come around
Chicago again. I really liked it, though. Heck, I even bought the CD's.

I've heard it on tape. It sounds ok, except I didn't get an album that had
songs...It was all dialogue. Can anyone reccomend a version of it on tape or
CD that combines dialogue with music?

Brennan, if your tape had all dialogue, it was not the currnetly popular
musical production which is all songs and has no dialogue. It is at
the Pantages theater in Toronto. (416)872-2222. We just ordered
tickets for July and were able to get what I would call the best
seats in the house. Front row center, mezanine. THey are $91 Canadian
which is just under $60 American. I saw Phantom in Toronto in October
"93 and saw Les Miserables in January at Wharton enter in MSU. I loved
them both but IMHO Phantom is better. Am now taking my whole family
including 3 teenaed boys who love Les Mis and I hope will be thrilled
by Phantom.

It will have to be a truly awesome show to be better than Les Mis
IMHO. I've heard the music for Phantom and it just hasn;t grabbed
me the way the music for Les Mis did. I still plan on seeing it
though, it's supposed to be a visually phenominal production.

I've heard a few rumors (and that's all they are is rumors) that Phantom is
coming to MSU's Wharton Center in the Spring of '96. But, like I said, I'm
not sure just how reliable this is.

Wharton Center has had some pretty big ones in the past, esp. Starlight
Excess as far as spectacles go. Not to mention the yearly return of
Les Mis. The real question is if they ditch the through the floor effects
or cut them down to fit under a raked stage.
