Love, Soft As An Easy Chair
|
Apr 5 20:58 UTC 1996 |
In this item, Grexers may share stories of how they met their spouses or
significant others. Some of these stories can be pretty interesting, but even
the standard "we were introduced" can be cool too. For those who are single,
it gives us hope (or warning). Even if you are not dating/married to/involved
with a person anymore, the story of how you met can be worth sharing. Have
at it...

I'd tell my story if I had one. I mean to me it just seems so weird to just
happen to walk into a place where "The One" just happens to be there and you
two just happen to get to talking....
One cool story I heard was that a couple met when he was a groomsman in a
wedding and had to escort her down the ails for a seat in the church (ails?
eep. Aisles... Stupid lag). One better was a story where a woman just met her
husband by chance in a bookstore. She thought he was cute and managed to talk
to him. Things got rolling and they've been married for 9 years now... and
this was after this woman had been set up on blind date after date, or seated
next to bachelors at parties for years.
My cousin met his wife when they both happened to be outside.. she was jogging
and he was walking the dog. They lived in nearby apt. complexes. They just
started talking. I mean it's odd for me to think that you don't realize it,
but what you think is a routine day turns out to be one that changes your life
forever.

my favorite story...a friend of a friend works for Bell Atlantic as
an operator, he is one of those guys who answers when you dial "411"
for information. One day a woman called information, asking him
for some listing that was hard to find. She kept trying to think of
what street the person she wanted to reach might live on, because
that person had a common name.
Anyway, after ten minutes, he said she couldnt tie up information any
longer, but agreed to call her back on her number to keep helping her.
So he called her back and helped her some more. He realized they were
hitting it off and asked her out. They were married a year later.
This woman called information and ended up falling in love with the
operator! Truth is stranger than fiction.

I met my ex-girlfriend, Holly while walking to the bowling alley. I was going
to take advantage of a sunday morning special (all you can bowl for $5)
Anyhow, I saw her walking her pet dalmation, and recalling that I once had
2 dalmations, I stopped to pet her dog, then I cordially asked her out for
lunch. That lasted 6 months. We did have some severe arguements, but there
were some lasting, loving moments as well. I wonder whatever became of her.

I met my wife in 1957. We were in the 7th grade, and her locker was next to
mine. Honest. Well, we didn't start dating until much later, though.
In the 7th grade, my interest in her was primarily as someone I could get the
homework from. I didn't appreciate her other features until much later.

I first met my last SO, naked, in a mutual friend's hottub.
I've never had much patience for smalltalk. :-)
That relationship lasted about 4 years. We're still friends.

...sniff!!... Jealous am I. That operator story kills me. Dod any of you know
right away that he/she was the one you were going to marry? I know of 2
instances where this happened. 1.) Guy met girl, guy just KNEW immediately
she was the one, got engaged 5 mos. later, now married for 2 years. 2.) Guy
was waiting in a hallway of a record company. Saw girl dressed in dirty
t-shirt and jeans walk by, she worked in shipping. Girl smiled at him. Guy
said to himself, "that's the woman I'm going to marry." Guy called his Mom,
living 400 miles away, and said he'd just seen The One. Mom asked the girl's
name and he didn't know. Followed girl down hall and asked her out. She said
she was dating someone. Guy didn't care. Went on date. Got engaged in 4 weeks.
Married for 15 years now, and 5 kids.

A friend of mine met his wife at 7-11. She was the cashier working
graveyard shift at 7-11. He came in for anti-freeze for his car and
some coffee. It was love at first sight. They talked for two hours
in the store and when her shifted, they went back to his place and had
sex, (all told about three hours after they met) They've been
happily married for several years now.

I like the idea of being friends first and ralizing it's more thamn that.
(sorry abou the typos, it's late). I began karate lessons again last month
after a long hiatus. I vaguely recall meeting a guy named Ken, also a white
belt like me. A few weeks later I noticed he was hanging around to talk to
me (the same thing I do when I like someone). At first I didn't think much
of him and didn't pay attention to him. Thought he was sweet and nice and
there wasn't much of a chance of me wanting to date him. But that attitude
has changed lately... I cought myself looking at him and thinking "He's
gorgeous," which I hadn't thought before. We're talking more and more when
we see each other. Not sure what is happening yet, but I am still afriad he
thinks I will say No if he asks me out. Also, if things did not work out, we'd
still have to see each other weekly in karate class. We'll likely test
together for our yellow belts in 2 weeks (one part of the test must be done
with a partner on your level). But as of now I like talking to him and he's
funny too.
What do y'all think?
Oh, Happy Easter (and Happy Passover too).

ref #15: Mopery is the act of exposing yourself to a blind person. (truth!)
The warrant and arrest were a joke, but he really did take me out of work in
handcuffs. It was an elaborate scheme, arranged by my sister, to get me a day
off from work.
Part of the deal was that I had to take him somewhere nice and buy him lunch.
I knew he was The One when I saw him come into the store; it took a
couple of years and a thump on the head from a dear friend (rest well,
Tony) for him to figure it out.
ref #19: I'll second that, bees. If you enjoy talking to him, ask him out
for a casual cup after class.

Yes, I know I should ask him out. And waiting for a man to decide my fate is
against everything I stand for as a feminist. I think we're chicken on both
parts. Tjinmg is I'm not sure what he would like.... we'd go out for a drink
but I don't know if he drinks or not. (Tjinmg...gawd. make that Thing).
The coffee after class thing is not quite feasible. After class we are all
sweaty, groos, and stinky. And all we want to do is go home, hose off, and
go to sleep. It's sometimes as late as 9:30 at night when we're done.
Ugh it's junior high revisited!
