Not Another Cafe Mark Unseen   Jun 18 21:40 UTC 1995

How many Grexers have been to Not Another Cafe (affectionally known as NAC)
on the corner of South Forest and South University in Ann Arbor (the former
location of Community Newscenter and Great Lakes' Cycle Center's less than
successful attempt at wooing customers away from that bike shop less than one
block away)? If you have been there, what were your impressions. Does is
kick butt? Does it suck? No opinion?

Never been there, sorry.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. It seemed more comfortable
than most, since it has couches and interesting chairs.
The prices seemed high, but then again most do. 75 cents for
a bagel when I could have talked 60 feet to the Bagel Factory
and paid 40 cents strikes me the wrong way.
But they have to pay expenses, so I suppose its the way things
go.

It struck me as being one of the weirdest places I've ever been in. It's
comfortable, and not the sort of place I see very often, so I like it.

Too much attitude in that place for my taste.

Everyone I know either seems to love it or hate it. I have not been there
myself although I have been planning to. It *sounds* like a good idea
to me though.

just tried the place last weekend - actaully fascinating! yes, new
bussinesses in that area are a tad on the expensive side, but the
accomodations are wonderful!

And there is an intentional stage for entertainment ... stay tuned.

NAC is fun, but I wish there weren't so many cafes. . .they're starting to
get on my nerves. Nac is different in alot of ways though. . .for one thing,
alot more townies hang out there than at depresso, they dont seem to have the
anti-equal-opportunity employment practices some of the other cafes do, and
they've got an interesting atmosphere, and they have ive music. All good. I
just wish they had more stuff for cheap; I'm finding it hard to find anyplace
I can can afford to hang out anymore. . .

Katt, have you thought about joining us at Grex Night Out at Not Another Cafe
some Thursday night?

I've not noticed: Does this place still exist?

response 21 of 29: Mark Unseen   Feb 20 06:30 UTC 2005

good lord no. it lasted maybe a year, if that; there were a couple other
coffee places there afterward, and it's been offices and classrooms for some
UM unit or other for several years now (School of Public Health (inhabitants
of the old Tower Recs space) or the Dept of Sociology would be my guess, but
it's been a while since i looked.)

Re: #22
What are you looking for in a cafe'? Live entertainment, a full menu,
late hours, a certain atmosphere, a coffeehouse, a full bar, or what?
