Joy Road bridge Mark Unseen   May 25 20:52 UTC 1994

US 23 just north of M-14 was closed for part of last weekend
for maintenance on the bridge on Joy Road. Man, what a job!
Caution: observe all barriers near Joy Road and Hwy 23 strictly!

I've noticed a lot of bridge maintenance lately. I hear that Huron
River Drive may be closed sometime this summer so that crews can
repair a bridge spanning the Huron River.

Have you noticed that it takes an inordinately long time for road crews
in this neck of the woods to repair roads?

Tell me. Michigan Ave east of Ypsi has been under construction for
over a year now. It'll be great when they're finished, but it just
seems unreal how long it's taking to put in storm sewers and resurface
the road for a 3 or 4 mile stretch.

THey've got the stretch of Platt Rd and Huron Parkway almost totally closed
off now. Only one lane is open, from Washtenaw to Packard, while Packard
to Washtenaw is being detoured to Carpenter, putting more traffic at the
intersections where the 23 on and off ramps are.

At least it's not the part of 23 that's closed for bridge repair.

"Maintenance" of the Joy Road bridge is not exactly the word I would
use to describe what they did to it! If you don't know what I mean,
you haven't seen it! :)

Re #7. I used the word maintenance entirely facetiously. I can't
remember ever seeing a bridge left open like that except when
washed out by flood.

When I entered the original item, I was laughing at how they had
left it undone, thinking they would leave it like that for a few
days or a week. It's still wide open.

I am relieved that we have made it through this much of the summer
without someone going around the barriers half drunk and crusing
into thin air. I thought sure an accident would happen if they left
it undone this long. Maybe the barricades are very well done.
