AA Summer Festival Mark Unseen   Jul 6 01:58 UTC 1993

Has anyone else been to the Top of the Park or attended any of the
other Summer Festival events this year? We finally got down there
tonight for the first time this year and took in the carillon concert
and a set of some jazz band. In the past, we've enjoyed the Chenille
Sisters, Big Dave and the Ultrasonics and Woody Allen movies.

The Summer Festival is one of the nice things about Ann Arbor. If you
haven't been down there yet this year, get down there before it's
over.

I haven't really been paying too much attention to the planned entertanment
there, but it is certainly a great place to go and see people. I bumped into
just about everybody I knew down there tonight, and didn't even have time
to look at the movie, because I was so busy talking to people.

Oh, so *YOU* were that loud guy who was talking all through the movie.

(just kidding, I wasn't there...)

No, like me, he was one of the people down on the ramp talking and getting
hugged.

That "some jazz band" was the Lunar Octet.

Ha Ha. "Yojimbo" would have been okay to watch except for those assholes
blurting out things, and ruining the movie for everyone else. There just
lucky I didn't throw what I had on my belt buckle(a nice, sharp, brass Shaken).

Doesn't summer festival traditionally end on the 4th of July?

I was at top of the park (acutally yesterday) today, and saw a table og
er, of GREXERS, and was happily greeted by remmers. I carefully ran
away screaming "I've been GREXED!"

I went once. It just seemed to hot to enjoy the top of a parking lot this
year.

Hi Katt!

I'm not sure. Is the schedule out yet?

I think the schedule is out. I know my wife got ticket for the Chenille
Sisters at Power during the fesitval, but don't know about the rest of the
schedule. Might do a drive-by of Power and look at the billboard next to the
parking lot drive...or stop in at the Burton Tower.

Does anyone know what became of the summer festival this year? I heard that
they were going to have to start charging people to get in. . .
You'd think in a town with as many rich people in it as Ann Arbor, someone
would be willing to help out something like the Summer Festival. . .--sigh--

They've always charged for Summer Festival Events, except for the
Top-Of-The-Park stuff. I haven't heard of any serious move to charge for that
(yet), but there is financial difficulty. I know I'm getting a lot more mail
about patron specials, receptions, etc. Of course, with some of the talent
they bring in you can understand how they go through some big bucks.

When you're at the top of the park, look for the "light-house" towers and put
in a couple of bucks. As I understand it, that money goes directly to support
the top of the park.

When I read the title of this item, I thought it was about an Alcoholics
Anonymous summer festival. I guess that's not the "AA" residents of Ann Arbor
think of first.
